The body is composed of hydrated liquid crystals. In fact, most of the body is made from crystalline arrays of collagen. There is also water molecules along the collagen. The water molecules can spin, and they can spin together. We call that coherence. This arrangement of water with collagen and other molecules explains how living matter has become so incredibly sensitive to fields in the environment. One aspect of having a body that is physically out of balance is that the crystals in different segments of the body will not be aligned with each other.
The meridians and points in acupuncture are are really conductors and amplifiers and the skin above them hold predictable electrical characteristics. The body is electric, and the needles help the body conduct healing through its conductive nature. The meridians, or lines conduct current that flows into the central nervous system.
As the body becomes balanced, these crystalline structures line up. At a certain point the molecules spin coherently. The result is a radiance of light and energy. You know what a radiant person looks like.
